The Breath, Care & Connection: The Marcie and Scott Story is a documentary-style patient story centered on the emotional, personal, and practical realities of living through a serious health experience and the caregiving relationship that follows. The video follows Marcie and Scott through a mix of interview footage, family photos, everyday home moments, outdoor b-roll, visual text cards, and intimate lifestyle imagery.
The story is built around the idea of “breath” — both as a physical necessity and as a symbol of life, care, vulnerability, and resilience. Through personal testimony and carefully selected visuals, the video explores how illness can affect not only the patient, but also the spouse, caregiver, family, and daily routines surrounding them.
The final piece blends public health messaging with human-centered storytelling, making the subject matter feel accessible, emotional, and grounded in lived experience.
The purpose of the video was to communicate a health-related story in a way that felt personal, respectful, and informative. Rather than presenting the topic only through facts or medical language, the piece uses a patient-and-caregiver narrative to show the real-life impact of illness, recovery, and ongoing care.
Present a clear and emotionally engaging patient/caregiver story.
Balance public health messaging with personal lived experience.
Use interviews, testimonials, archival photos, and b-roll to build narrative depth.
Maintain a culturally responsive and non-stigmatizing tone.
Make the content accessible through captions, clean structure, strong audio, and polished editing.
Deliver a final video that could work across digital, social, and stakeholder-facing platforms.
As the Video Editor, I shaped the story from raw footage into a cohesive final video. My role required both technical editing skills and editorial judgment — selecting the strongest material, building an emotional arc, maintaining continuity, and ensuring the final piece aligned with public health messaging goals.
I worked in Adobe Premiere Pro to review footage, build assemblies, edit interviews and b-roll, incorporate feedback, add captions and graphics, polish audio and color, and prepare final exports. This project required more than simply cutting clips together. It required understanding the emotional weight of the story, protecting the dignity of the subjects, and making careful editorial choices about pacing, tone, representation, and clarity.

Built shot list based on scene value, continuity, and message alignment.
Edited interviews, testimonials, and B-roll into cohesive rough cuts and final cuts.
